Learn the inspiring story of Jaya Parvati Vrat, where devotees, especially unmarried girls and married women, observe this fast seeking blessings for a happy married life and protection from obstacles.
Once upon a time, in the town of Kaudinya, there lived a Brahmin named Vaman with his wife Satya. They had no children and were very sad, despite having everything else in life.
One day, Sage Narada visited their home. The couple welcomed him warmly and shared their sorrow. Narada told them about a sacred spot outside their town, in the southern part of a forest, where a Bilva tree stood. Under the tree, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati resided in the form of a Shivling. He advised the couple to worship there with devotion, assuring them that their wish would be fulfilled.
The Brahmin couple found the Shivling and began worshiping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati with great dedication. For five years, they performed their prayers daily. One day, while the Brahmin was collecting flowers for the worship, he was bitten by a snake and died. When he didn’t return, Satya grew worried and went into the forest searching for him. She found her husband lifeless and began crying, praying to Goddess Parvati for help.
Moved by her devotion, Goddess Parvati appeared and brought the Brahmin back to life by placing nectar in his mouth. The couple, overjoyed, worshipped Goddess Parvati with gratitude. Pleased by their devotion, she granted them a boon. They asked for the blessing of a child. Goddess Parvati instructed them to observe the Jaya Parvati Vrat with full faith, promising that all their wishes would come true.
The couple performed the Vrat as instructed, and they were blessed with a son, completing their family.
