Shradh Dwitiya Yamunotri Dham Special Pitru Dosh Shanti Mahapuja and Yama Dand Nivaran Puja for Mental and Physical Well-Being of the Family

In Sanatan Dharma, Pitru Paksha holds special significance. This period is considered the most auspicious time for the peace of ancestors' souls. According to scriptures, during Pitru Paksha, our ancestors descend from the Pitru Lok to Earth and are pleased with the Shradh, Tarpan, and Pinddaan performed by their descendants, bestowing their blessings. Every tithi of Pitru Paksha has its own special significance, among which Dwitiya Tithi is one. It is also known as Dooj Shradh and this day refers to the observance of ancestral rituals and offerings performed on the second day (Dwitiya) of the Pitru Paksha period. The period of Pitru Paksha is also considered auspicious for the removal of Pitru Dosh. According to Hindu scriptures, 'Pitru Dosh' arises due to the unfulfilled desires and negative actions of ancestors. This Dosh is believed to cause financial troubles, mental stress, and physical issues. It is believed that performing Pitru Dosh Shanti Mahapuja on Shradh Dwitiya is beneficial for overcoming Pitru Dosh in the horoscope. Performing this puja along with Yama Dand Nivaran Puja is said to be even more effective, bringing blessings of mental and physical well-being to the family.

This puja will be organised at Shri Yamunotri Dham at Uttarakhand. This temple is dedicated to Yamuna Devi. Yamuna Devi is the daughter of Surya Dev (the Sun God) and sister of Yama (the God of Death). According to legend, when Yamuna Devi started flowing on earth in the form of a river, her brother Yamraj was given the Mrityu Lok. Yamuna Devi then celebrated the festival of Bhai Dooj and Yamraj asked Maa Yamuna to ask for a boon. Yamraj, after listening to sister Yamuna, gave a boon that whoever takes a holy dip in your holy water or perform any puja on the banks of Yamuna river will never see the way to Yamlok because Yamuna Devi is the sister of Lord Yama, the god of death and the protector of ancestors, it is believed that performing Pitru Dosh Shanti Mahapuja and Yama Dand Nivaran Puja at Yamunotri Dham helps one find relief from Pitru Dosha. Therefore, on the auspicious occasion of Shradh Dwitiya during the Pitru Paksha performing Pitru Dosh Shanti Mahapuja and Yama Dand Nivaran Puja at Shri Yamunotri Dham may bring blessings for mental and physical well-being. Additionally, during Pitru Paksha, there is a tradition of performing acts of charity for ancestors. It is believed that offerings made during this time yield double the rewards. These offerings include Panch Bhog, lamp offerings (Deep Daan), and Ganga Aarti. By incorporating these additional options—such as Panch Bhog, Deep Daan, and Ganga Aarti—you can enhance the effectiveness of your puja and gain greater benefits. Participate in this special puja through Sri Mandir on this auspicious tithi and receive the blessings of your ancestors.

Shri Yamunotri Dham, Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand
Yamunotri Dham, the ideal starting point for the sacred Chota Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand, is a place where pilgrims receive blessings for a safe and spiritually enriching journey. Dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, the temple stands in the Uttarkashi district, alongside the beautiful River Yamuna. A unique ritual at Yamunotri involves cooking potatoes and rice in the hot spring of Surya Kund, near the temple. Devotees offer these cooked items at the temple, and the rice is taken home as Prasad.

The original temple is believed to have been constructed by Maharani Guleria of Jaipur in the 19th century, although some sources suggest it was built by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal. Over time, the temple has undergone several renovations due to damage from natural elements. According to legend, the Sage Asit Muni, who lived in the area and bathed daily in both the Ganges and Yamuna Rivers. In his old age, when he could no longer travel to Gangotri, a stream of the Ganges miraculously appeared near Yamunotri for him. Additionally, Goddess Yamuna is considered the daughter of Surya Dev (the Sun God) and the sister of Yama (the God of Death). Worshipping Yamuna is believed to please both the Sun God and Yama, offering devotees protection and blessings.
