According to a legend from the religious scriptures, when Lord Dhanvantari emerged from the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean), he requested his divine position from Lord Vishnu. However, Lord Vishnu replied that he had arrived slightly late and that he would be born in the Dwapara Yuga as a royal descendant on Earth, where he would gain immense fame and be worshipped across the three realms. Thus, in the second Dwapara Yuga, Lord Dhanvantari was born in Kashi, the sacred city of Lord Shiva, as a descendant of King Dhanwa, the son of King Kasi. He was the one who divided Ayurveda into eight branches. Lord Dhanvantari was well-versed in all methods of treating diseases, making him the ultimate divine physician.
