In Sanatan Dharma, the Mahakumbh festival, celebrated every 12 years, holds immense spiritual significance. It is held in Prayagraj, also known as Tirthraj, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. This grand event aligns with celestial phenomena. Basant Panchami, also called Vasant Panchami or Shri Panchami, is celebrated on the fifth day of Magha. It marks the arrival of spring and honors Goddess Saraswati, the divine embodiment of learning, creativity, and music. The timing of this festival is determined by Purvahna Kala, the period between sunrise and midday, during which the Panchami Tithi prevails. Occasionally, it may occur on Chaturthi Tithi. Basant Panchami is also considered an Abujh Muhurat, an exceptionally auspicious time when no consultation with a panchang is required. It is a perfect day for important events like marriages, housewarmings, and new ventures.
A well-known legend ties Basant Panchami to Kalidasa, who was blessed by Goddess Saraswati, transforming him into a celebrated poet. The convergence of Mahakumbh and Basant Panchami in 2025 adds profound spiritual significance, drawing countless devotees to Prayagraj to seek divine blessings and celebrate this vibrant festival.
