🛕 Why is Lord Hanuman called Sankat Mochan?
The first Hanuman Puja of the New Year holds special significance, especially when it falls on a Saturday. Saturday is considered very dear to Lord Hanuman, and devotees make efforts to please Him on this day to fulfill their desires. In Hinduism, Lord Hanuman is worshipped as a symbol of immense strength, devotion, and loyalty. He is known as Ram Bhakt, Sankat Mochan, and Pawanputra. He is called Sankat Mochan because, whenever Lord Rama faced any crisis, Lord Hanuman provided a solution. According to the Valmiki Ramayana, when Lord Rama’s brother, Lakshman, was rendered unconscious, it was Lord Hanuman who decided to bring the Sanjeevani booti to save him. To hinder Lord Hanuman's mission, Ravana sent a demon named Kalnemi, who disguised himself as a Brahmin and tried to mislead Lord Hanuman. However, using his intelligence, Lord Hanuman killed the demon Kalnemi and successfully brought the Sanjeevani herb in time to save Lakshman’s life.
It is believed that Lord Hanuman is immortal and continues to roam in Kaliyuga, removing the troubles of His devotees. To please Him, devotees recite the Hanuman Chalisa, composed by Goswami Tulsidas Ji, which is considered extremely powerful. The Hanuman Chalisa comprises 40 verses written in praise of Hanuman, the devotee of Lord Rama. Reciting the Hanuman Chalisa protects devotees from all difficulties and negative energies. The scriptures also emphasize the importance of reciting the Hanuman Ashtak Path along with the Hanuman Chalisa. It is said that reciting both together doubles the benefits. It is believed that by reciting Hanuman Chalisa and Hanuman Ashtak, Sankat Mochan Hanuman takes away all the troubles of his devotees and provides them with strength and courage like himself. To mark the occasion, the first Hanuman Puja of the year will be organized at the Mayapati Hanuman Temple in Ujjain. In this ritual, 21 Brahmins will collectively recite the Hanuman Chalisa.
