According to ancient religious texts, Lord Dhanvantari emerged from the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan). After emerging from the ocean, when Dhanvantari requested his position from Lord Vishnu, Vishnu replied that he was a bit late in arriving. The gods had already been worshipped, and the divisions of all departments had been made. Therefore, the divine position could not be granted to him immediately. However, Vishnu blessed him, saying that in the second Dwapara Yuga, he would be born in a royal family on Earth, would become famous and revered across the three worlds, and would be considered divine. He would divide Ayurveda into eight branches. Due to this boon, in the second Dwapara Yuga, Lord Dhanvantari was born as the son of King Dhanva, the descendant of King Kash, in the holy city of Kashi, established by Lord Shiva. After learning Ayurveda from Bharadwaj, he divided it into eight branches. Lord Dhanvantari had knowledge of all methods of treating diseases. Therefore, he is referred to as the deity who grants good health. It is believed that worshipping Lord Dhanvantari helps in relieving health-related issues. For this reason, on the auspicious Monday, a special ritual consisting of 11,000 Mahamrityunjaya Mantra Jaap and a Dhanvantari Homa will be organised at the Etteluthu Perumal Temple located in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu.
