By slaying the demon, Kartikeya fulfilled his destiny and became the god of war and the destroyer of enemies. In the Puranas, he is also referred to as the chief commander of the gods (Dev Senapati). One of the special rituals dedicated to Lord Murugan is the Shatru Samhara Trishati Homa. "Shatru Samhara Trishati" involves invoking the 300 forms of Lord Kartikeya by chanting his 300 names to annihilate enemies.
