The eighth goddess among the ten Mahavidyas, Maa Bagalamukhi's Jayanti (birth anniversary) is celebrated on Vaishakha Shukla Ashtami. It is believed that on this auspicious day, the goddess manifested in a divine form from the Haridra Sarovar to protect the entire creation. According to legend, during the Satya Yuga, the earth was on the brink of destruction due to a catastrophic flood and storm. Devastation was widespread, and concerned by the chaos, Lord Vishnu approached Lord Shiva for a solution. Shiva revealed that only the primordial energy, Adi Shakti, possessed the power to avert such a crisis. Lord Vishnu then performed intense penance, which pleased Shri Vidya, who manifested from the Haridra Sarovar in the Saurashtra region in the form of Maa Bagalamukhi. She protected all living beings and saved the Earth from destruction. Since then, the worship of Maa Bagalamukhi has been considered highly significant, as she is believed to be the goddess who provides victory over enemies, removal of obstacles, and divine protection. This day is regarded as particularly auspicious for seeking the blessings of Maa Bagalamukhi, as her worship is said to protect devotees from the evil eye, enemy attacks, and negative energies. Her grace is believed to bestow influential speech, mental stability, and success in life. On this day, worship of Lord Bhairav—the fierce and protective form of Lord Shiva—also holds great significance. It is said that combined worship of Maa Bagalamukhi and Lord Bhairav grants the devotee doubled spiritual strength, protection, and spiritual accomplishments (siddhi).
