It is believed that those who surrender to Shiva’s grace on this divine occasion can overcome negativity, cleanse their karma, and unlock inner peace like never before. Worshiping Lord Shiva during the 4 Prahars (four phases of the night) holds immense spiritual significance. It is believed that sincere prayers offered during these hours bring divine grace, fulfillment of desires, and liberation from past sins. Among the various forms of worship, Rudrabhishek is considered one of the most powerful rituals. Performing Abhishek with sacred elements is believed to purify the soul, remove obstacles, heal ailments, and bestow overall well-being. It is said that pleasing Lord Shiva through Rudrabhishek can make the impossible possible. Performing this sacred ritual at a Jyotirlinga, especially at Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, is considered highly beneficial. Omkareshwar is the fourth among the 12 Jyotirlingas and a Swayambhu Lingam (self-manifested). Devotees perform Abhishek during all four Prahars, enhancing spiritual energy and deepening their divine connection with Lord Shiva.
To celebrate Mahashivratri, Sri Mandir is organizing the 4 Prahar Maha Abhishek Puja at Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, a grand ritual conducted across 12 hours. Worshiping Lord Shiva on this night is believed to bring blessings equivalent to an entire year’s devotion. This 4 Prahar Abhishek Puja symbolizes Dharma (righteousness), Artha (wealth), Kama (desires), and Moksha (liberation)—guiding devotees towards a night of awakening with the divine.
Puja Timings & Sacred Offerings
👉The first Prahar, known as Pradosh Kaal, starts around 06:43 PM to 09:47 PM. During this time, a special Abhishek of Lord Shiva will be performed using Bhasma (sacred ash) and Gangajal.
👉The second Prahar begins around 09:47 PM to 12:51 AM, Feb 27. During this time, a special Abhishek of Bhagwan Shiva will be performed with Milk and Bhang.
👉The third Prahar starts around 12:51 AM to 03:55 AM, Feb 27. Sugarcane juice and Honey will be used for the special Abhishek during this time.
👉The puja of the Fourth and Last Prahar will take place from 03:55 AM to 06:59 AM, Feb 27 in Brahma Muhurta (most auspicious time as per the Hindu scriptures) completing this Maha Abhishek puja of Lord Shiva with with Shodashopchara Abhishek, involving 11 fruit juices and Panchamrit (a mixture of milk, yogurt, honey, sugar, and ghee).

According to a mythological story, Lord Shiva comes here to rest at night after wandering through all the three worlds.
