Ganga Dussehra Special 1008 Ganga Mantra Jaap, Ganga Panchamrit Abhishek and Deep Daan for Freedom from Sins and Physical Well-being

According to the scriptures, Maa Ganga had descended on earth, on the tenth day of Shukla Paksha, of Hindu month Jyeshtha. Therefore, this day is celebrated as Ganga Dussehra. According to the Hindu mythology, Rishi Bhagiratha had performed penance for his ancestors to attain Moksha and after his tireless efforts, Maa Ganga arrived on earth, but the speed of Maa Ganga was so fast that if she would have fallen directly on earth, the earth would have destroyed. A situation of disaster would have been created and she would have gone to the netherworld. On the tireless prayers of the devotees, Lord Shiva gathered Ganga in his Jata (locks) and after that Maa Ganga reached the earth via Kailash and saved the ancestors of Bhagiratha.

It is believed that by worshipping Maa Ganga as per the rituals on this auspicious day, the person gets freedom from all sins, sufferings, and diseases and they attract happiness in life. Apart from this, there is also a tradition of doing Daan-Dharm by offering food and water on this day. This is the reason why the puja of Maa Ganga done at Har Ki Pauri, Haridwar on Ganga Dussehra is world famous. According to religious stories, Lord Brahma had performed penance for millions of years in Haridwar, hence the importance of Ganga increases even more in Haridwar. That is why on this auspicious occasion, Sri Mandir is organising 1008 Ganga Mantra Jaap, Ganga Panchamrit Abhishek and Deep Daan, by participating in which the devotees get the blessings of freedom from sins and physical well-being.

Haridwar, known as a pilgrimage site all over the world, is also known as the Kumbh City. During Mahakumbh, thousands of people from India and abroad come to take a dip in the Ganga. At the same time, in Haridwar, the importance of Ganga Puja on Ganga Dussehra is very high. According to the Puranas, Maa Ganga had descended on earth for human welfare. Maa Ganga first came to Haridwar in the plains after passing through the mountains from Gomukh.

According to religious stories, Lord Brahma had performed penance for millions of years in Haridwar, hence the importance of Ganga increases even more in Haridwar. Also, the drops of nectar that came out after the churning of the ocean fell in Haridwar, hence the importance of Ganga increases the most in this place. It is said that on Ganga Dussehra, in Haridwar, the water of Ganga becomes like nectar while bathing, meditating, and donating here provides many benefits. Along with this, a person's sins of birth are eliminated and he will be capable of attaining salvation.
