Shravan Somvaar 11 Brahman Anushthan 11 Brahman Abhishekatmak Laghu Rudrabhishek Anushthaan and Brahman Bhojan for Blessings for Protection from Negative Energies

The month of Shravan, also known as Sawan, is one of the most sacred months in Hinduism, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Worshipping Lord Shiva during this month pleases Him very quickly. One of the names of Lord Shiva is Rudra. In the Shukla Yajurveda Samhita of the Yajurveda, Lord Rudra is described in detail through eight chapters, known as the ‘Rudrashtadhyayi.’ Although this text consists of ten chapters (Adhyayas) praising the glory of Lord Shiva or Rudra, eight chapters specifically describe the greatness and grace of Lord Shiva. Hence, it is named Rudrashtadhyayi. It is believed that reciting the Rudrashtadhyayi mantras and performing abhishek of the Shivling along with these mantras fulfill all the desires of a person and grant them ultimate salvation after death. Reciting these eight chapters during the auspicious month of Shravan is considered highly beneficial.

The first chapter consists of ten verses, starting with the Ganesha Vahana mantra. The first chapter also includes the Shiva Sankalpa Sukta. The second chapter contains a total of 22 Vedic verses, mainly including the Purusha Suktam (16 verses). Similarly, Aditya Suktam and Vajra Suktam are also included. The fifth chapter contains the highly beneficial Rudrasuktam with a total of 66 verses. The sixth chapter includes the great Mahamrityunjaya mantra in its fifth verse. The seventh chapter contains seven verses of Aranyaka Shruti. The eighth chapter is known as Namak-Chamak, consisting of 24 verses. It is believed that performing Lord Shiva’s laghu rudrabhishek while chanting the Rudrashtadhyayi is very beneficial. Therefore, this puja will be organised in the Pashupatinath Mahadev Temple, Haridwar on the Monday falling in the auspicious month of Shravan. This sacred puja will be performed by eleven Brahmins, and upon the completion of the ceremony, Brahmin bhojan will also be performed. Participate in this puja through Sri Mandir and receive divine blessings from Lord Shiva.

One of the major pilgrimage sites in the Char Dham Yatra is Kedarnath, known as the abode of Lord Shiva. It is believed that the journey to Kedarnath remains incomplete without first witnessing Lord Pashupatinath in Kathmandu, Nepal. To honour this significance, the king of Nepal replicated the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, establishing a Shiva Lingam from the same sacred stone in Haridwar, near the banks of River Ganga at Har Ki Pauri.

In Haridwar, the Pashupatinath Mahadev Temple stands as a symbol of shared ancient culture between Nepal and India. Devotees who worship Pashupatinath are believed to receive blessings of prosperity, good health and a long life. The Shiva Lingam in this temple is said to alleviate the impact of planetary doshas, mitigate Rahu-Ketu’s negative effects and obliterate life's obstacles, propelling one towards uncharted heights of success and fulfilment.
