Shradh Trayodashi Gangotri Yamunotri Combo Pitru Dosha, Yam Dand Mukti Mahapuja and Gangotri Ganga Lahari Path for Peace of Departed Souls and Protection from Negative Energies

In Sanatan Dharma, Pitru Paksha holds special significance. This period is considered the most auspicious for performing all rituals aimed at attaining peace for the souls of our ancestors. According to the scriptures, during the period of Pitru Paksha, our ancestors come to Earth from Pitru Lok and bless their descendants when they are pleased with the Shradh, Tarpan, and Pind Daan performed for them. Each day during Pitru Paksha has its own unique significance, one of which is Trayodashi Tithi, also known as Trayodashi Shradh. On this day, the Shradh is performed for those ancestors who passed away on any Trayodashi Tithi according to the Hindu calendar. According to ancient texts, if the Shradh of the ancestors is not performed correctly, their descendants may face Pitra Dosha. Due to Pitru Dosha, several problems such as financial loss, and family disputes may arise in life. It is believed that performing the Pitru Dosha Shanti Mahapuja on Trayodashi during Pitru Paksha brings peace to the souls of the ancestors and prosperity to the family. If this puja is performed at a sacred place, its significance increases manifold. Additionally, this special puja should be performed on the banks of holy rivers like Ganga and Yamuna by experienced priests. Apart from this, performing Yam Dand Mukti Puja and Ganga Lahari Path along with this puja can be highly beneficial.

According to the scriptures, Yamuna Devi is the daughter of Surya Dev and the sister of Dev Yamaraj, the protector of ancestors. As per the legends, when Yamuna Devi started flowing on Earth as a river, her brother Yamaraj was made the lord of the Mrityu Lok. On this occasion, Yamuna Devi celebrated the festival of Bhai Dooj with her brother Yamaraj. Pleased with his sister's devotion and love, Yamaraj asked her to request a boon. Hearing Yamuna Devi's prayer, Yamaraj granted her the boon that whoever bathes in the holy waters of the Yamuna or performs worship with devotion and proper rituals on its banks would not have to face the path to Yamlok. Therefore, during Pitru Paksha, the Pitru Dosha, Yam Dand Mukti Mahapuja at Shri Yamunotri Dham and the Ganga Lahari Path at Shri Gangotri Dham will be organised. Participate in these pujas being conducted simultaneously at these sacred sites through Sri Mandir and receive the blessings of your ancestors. Additionally, During Pitru Paksha, there is a tradition of performing acts of charity for ancestors. It is believed that offerings made during this time yield double the rewards. These offerings include Panch Bhog, lamp offerings (Deep Daan), and Ganga Aarti. By incorporating these additional options—such as Panch Bhog, Deep Daan, and Ganga Aarti—you can enhance the effectiveness of your puja and gain greater benefits.

Yamunotri Dham, one of the sacred sites of the Chhota Char Dham Yatra, marks the beginning of this holy pilgrimage. Pilgrims seek the blessings of Maa Yamuna here to ensure a safe and spiritually enriching journey. Dedicated to Maa Yamuna, this temple is located in the Uttarkashi district on the banks of the Yamuna River. According to mythology, Rishi Asit Muni resided in this region and would bathe daily in both the Ganga and Yamuna rivers. In his old age, when he could no longer travel to Gangotri, a miraculous stream of the Ganga appeared near Yamunotri, allowing him to continue his regular ritual baths. Additionally, Maa Yamuna is considered the daughter of Surya Dev (the Sun God) and the sister of Yamaraj (the God of Death). It is believed that devotees who worship Maa Yamuna receive blessings from both Surya Dev and Yamaraj.

On the other hand, Gangotri Dham is located in the sacred land of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. Gangotri is the source of the Ganga River, and it is believed that worshipping Maa Ganga at this place fulfils all the wishes of the devotees. According to mythological stories, King Bhagirath performed penance here for the salvation of his ancestors, and after his relentless efforts, Goddess Ganga descended to Earth. However, the flow of the Ganga was so powerful that if it had fallen directly to Earth, it would have caused destruction. To prevent such a calamity, Lord Shiva contained the Ganga in his matted hair and then released her to flow gently on Earth, thereby fulfilling the redemption of Bhagirath's ancestors. It is believed that the stone on which King Bhagirath meditated still exists here and is known as Bhagirath Shila. It is said that those who perform puja at the Ganga ghat in Gangotri Dham receive the blessings of Maa Ganga.
