Skanda Shashti Prarambh : Dev Senapati Kartikeya Special Murugan Gyana Vel Pujan and Subramanya Bhunjangam and Kavacham Path For Blessings of Protection from Enemies and Negative Energies

In Hinduism, the month of Kartik holds special significance. It is believed that this month is named after Lord Shiva and Parvati's son, Kartikeya. During this month, a six-day festival dedicated to Lord Kartikeya is celebrated. Lord Kartikeya is also known as Skanda Kumar and Murugan. This festival is one of the most important celebrations for Tamil Hindus, starting from Kartik Shukla Pratipada and continuing until Kartik Shukla Shashthi. According to mythological tales, Lord Kartikeya defeated the demon Surapadman with his 'Vel ', an event known as Surasamharam. Surapadman was the son of Sage Kashyapa and a shakti named Maya. Before the battle, Lord Murugan went to seek the blessings of his mother Parvati and received the Vel (divine spear) from her, which he used in the battle. He defeated Surapadma’s army, vanquished his brothers, and ultimately defeated Surapadma, who then sought forgiveness from Lord Murugan. Showing mercy, Lord Murugan transformed Surapadma into a peacock and accepted him as his vehicle. Since then, the Vel has become synonymous with the worship of Murugan.

The Murugan Gyana Vel Pujan is a powerful ritual to please Lord Murugan, which helps remove unexpected challenges from your life and protects you from enemies. It is believed that this puja is highly effective in defeating adversaries and achieving victory in all aspects of life. Additionally, the Subramanya Bhunjangam and Kavacham are recited during his worship. It is believed that Adi Shankaracharya composed the Subramanya Bhujangam Stotram. When he meditated on Lord Subramanya, he felt a self-luminous light shining in his heart, and words emerged from his mouth in the metre of the 'Bhujang' (serpent). The word ‘Kavacham’ means “protective shield,” and it is a hymn in praise of Lord Subramanya, used as a means to seek his protection and grace. Chanting this provides the devotee with protection from negative energies in their life. Lord Murugan holds a special place among Tamil Hindus and is revered particularly in South India, where he is considered the younger brother of Lord Ganesha. In North India, however, he is regarded as Ganesha’s elder brother. Born with six heads, Lord Murugan represents six divine powers, and he is primarily worshipped in Tamil Nadu as the bestower of these powers or siddhis. Thus, six days before Skanda Shashti, on the auspicious beginning of this festival, the Murugan Gyana Vel Pujan and Subramanya Bhunjangam and Kavacham Path will be conducted. Participate in this special puja through Sri Mandir and receive the blessings of Lord Murugan.

Etteluthuperumal Temple, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu
The Etteluthuperumal Temple, located in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, is a revered shrine imbued with deep spiritual significance. Established 120 years ago by the esteemed sage Mayandi Siddhar, the temple is a testament to enduring tradition and devotion. Sage Mayandi Siddhar constructed the temple following a profound meditation and vision of Lord Ram. The temple has witnessed numerous miracles, including the main statue of Lord Perumal, which was sculpted by an ordinary person with no formal knowledge of sculpture. The temple houses several sacred idols, including the notable Sphatika Lingam made of pure clear quartz.

According to the Shastras, worshipping the Sphatika Lingam is believed to imbue devotees with confidence, self-worth, and power, while alleviating worries and negative influences. This Sphatika Lingam is particularly significant as it is one of the largest in India, after the one in Rishikesh. The temple is also renowned for its association with Lord Ram, as it is believed to be the site where Lord Ram granted moksha to Jatayu and performed his father’s last rites. Devotees visit the Etteluthuperumal Temple to seek blessings from Lord Ram, Lord Krishna, Lord Kartikeya, Lord Shiva, and Lord Hanuman. Performing puja here is believed to fulfil devotees' wishes and bless them with success in all endeavours.
