Magha Gupt Navratri Ashtami 5 Mahavidya Anushthan Maa Kali, Maa Tara, Maa Shodashi, Maa Bhuvaneshwari and Maa Bagalamukhi Shakti Samriddhi Maha Yagya For Protection from Enemies and Achieving Abundance

In Sanatan Dharma, the month of Magha is highly sacred, and Gupt Navratri, beginning on the Pratipada Tithi of Shukla Paksha, holds immense religious significance. During this period, devotees worship the 10 Mahavidyas, manifestations of Goddess Durga, to seek divine blessings and spiritual growth. It is believed that Devi Consciousness peaks during Magha Gupt Navratri, especially on Durga Ashtami, granting the wishes of devotees and providing protection from harm. Worshipping the fierce forms of Maa Durga on this auspicious day is said to fulfill all desires. Therefore, on the auspicious occasion of Magha Gupt Navratri Ashtami, Sri Mandir is organizing the 5 Mahavidya Anushthan at the Shaktipeeth Kalighat. This ritual will include the Shakti Samriddhi Mahayagya dedicated to Maa Kali, Maa Tara, Maa Shodashi, Maa Bhuvaneshwari, and Maa Bagalamukhi. It is believed that performing this puja dedicated to the 5 Mahavidyas blesses devotees with protection from enemies and abundance in life.

According to the Devi Bhagavata Purana, the origin of the Mahavidyas is linked to a dispute between Lord Shiva and his consort Devi Sati. When Lord Shiva refused to permit Devi Sati to attend her father’s yagya, she transformed herself into ten forms and surrounded Lord Shiva from all directions to prevent him from leaving. These ten forms came to be known as the Mahavidyas. Among them, the five most revered are Maa Kali, Maa Tara, Maa Shodashi, Maa Bhuvaneshwari, and Maa Bagalamukhi.

The first Mahavidya, Maa Kali, represents time, creation, and destruction. She embodies the power of Lord Shiva. Maa Durga assumed her form to defeat demons. She removes obstacles, destroys negativity, and initiates new beginnings.

Maa Tara is the principal goddess of Tantrics. Sage Vasishtha was the first to worship her. She symbolizes guidance and compassion, helping devotees navigate difficult times while granting them wisdom and spiritual liberation.
Maa Shodashi, also known as Lalita, Raj Rajeshwari, and Tripura Sundari, is believed to embody 16 supreme qualities, which is why she is named Shodashi. She represents beauty, harmony, and ultimate truth. She is worshipped for her ability to bring balance and completeness to life.
Maa Bhuvaneshwari is regarded as the Goddess of the Universe. It is said that she governs the entire cosmos. She is the nurturing power of creation and abundance. Maa Bhuvaneshwari blesses her devotees by bestowing abundance, nurturing creation, and expanding opportunities for growth and success.

Maa Bagalamukhi represents control, victory, and peace. She is known for her power to subdue enemies and provide protection. Maa Bagalamukhi blesses her devotees by helping them overcome obstacles, master challenges, and ensure victory during times of conflict.

You too can participate in the Magha Gupt Navratri Ashtami 5 Mahavidya Anushthan through Sri Mandir and receive the divine blessings of the 5 Mahavidyas—Maa Kali, Maa Tara, Maa Shodashi, Maa Bhuvaneshwari, and Maa Baglamukhi.

Shaktipeeth Kalighat Temple, Kolkata, West Bengal
The Kali Ghat Temple, located in Kolkata, West Bengal, is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in Hinduism and is considered a highly significant pilgrimage site. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali, revered as the deity of power, energy, and destruction. According to mythological tales, it is believed that here, the right toe of Goddess Sati fell when Lord Shiva was carrying her burnt body and performing the Tandava dance in grief. For this reason, this place is included among the extremely sacred 51 Shakti Peethas. The temple houses an idol of Goddess Kali in a fierce form, where she is seen standing with her right foot on Lord Shiva's chest, adorned with a garland of soft skulls around his neck, holding some axes and severed heads in her hands, with some skulls tied around her waist. Her tongue is protruding outward with drops of blood dripping from it, made of gold.

The current temple was constructed under the patronage of the Saborno Roychoudhury family & Babu Kaliproshad Dutto, with construction starting in 1798 and completing in 1809. The Kali Ghat Temple holds immense religious and cultural significance. For centuries, it has been a centre of attraction for devotees who come here to fulfil their wishes. Worship of Goddess Kali at Kali Ghat liberates devotees from fear, negativity, and malevolent energies, bringing peace, prosperity, and success in life. Additionally, the temple is a symbol of Bengal's cultural heritage and hosts grand celebrations during religious festivals, especially Durga Puja and Kali Puja.
