Who is Goddess Annapurna?

Goddess Annapurna is known as the Goddess of Food and Nourishment. She is an incarnation of Mata Parvati, the divine power of Lord Shiva. In Hindu tradition, it is considered auspicious to chant Annapurna Mantras before eating food. By doing so, one expresses gratitude to the Goddess for the blessing of food. To receive the blessings of Maa Annapurna, one should always keep the home, especially the kitchen, clean. It is also considered beneficial to donate food to the needy or Brahmins on every Ekadashi.

How to Chant Annapurna Mantra

  1. Take a Bath & Wear Clean Clothes – Before chanting the Annapurna Mantra, take a bath and wear clean clothes.

  2. Clean the House & Kitchen – Clean the entire house, especially the kitchen and stove. Sprinkle Ganga water for purification.

  3. Prepare a Sacred Space – Place a yellow or red cloth on a platform and set up the Navagraha (nine planets) idols or symbols.

  4. Offer Decorations to Goddess Annapurna – Present clothes, jewelry, and other decorative items to the Goddess.

  5. Purify the Cooking Stove – Sprinkle turmeric, kumkum, rice, and flowers on the cooking stove. Light incense and lamps.

  6. Start Chanting – Begin reciting the Annapurna Mantra with devotion.
