Who is Shri Krishna?

The name Shri Krishna fills the heart with joy and love. He is the 8th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the protector of the universe. Shri Krishna lived a life full of divinity and love. He was born in the Dwapar Yuga, and Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, is considered his birthplace.

Shri Krishna is also known by many names, such as Kanhaiya, Shyam, Gopal, Keshav, Dwarkesh, Dwarkadhish, and Vasudev. He was a selfless karma yogi, a great philosopher, and a divine personality. He is described as "Sampoorna Kala" (complete in all arts) and "Poorna Purushottam" (the supreme being). Shri Krishna was an ideal companion, a great teacher, and a wise communicator.

During the Mahabharata, Shri Krishna guided humanity with his divine teachings and actions. As Arjuna's charioteer, he delivered the Bhagavad Gita, which remains a sacred scripture worldwide. Due to his wisdom, he is also honored as Jagatguru (the universal teacher).

Chanting the mantra "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya" removes sufferings and brings Lord Krishna’s blessings. This mantra helps in achieving peace of mind and fills the heart with love and devotion.   • Light incense and a lamp, then focus on Krishna with devotion.
  • Offer clothes and sacred thread (janeu) to Lord Krishna.
  • Present fruits, butter, and panjiri as an offering.
  • Start chanting Krishna mantras using a Tulsi mala (prayer beads).
  • Rotate the mala (rosary) using three fingers—thumb, ring finger, and little finger—while keeping the index finger slightly bent.

Important Points to Remember While Chanting

  • Keep your mind and body pure; chant the mantra only after bathing.
  • Chant at the same time daily or as guided by a spiritual teacher.
  • Pronounce the mantra clearly and correctly.
  • Maintain a positive mindset and avoid negative thoughts while chanting.
  • Do not consume tamasic (heavy or negative) food before or during chanting.
