Every month, there are two Chaturthi days dedicated to Lord Ganesha. The Chaturthi after Amavasya during the waxing phase of the moon is called Vinayaka Chaturthi. Also, do not use basil (Tulsi) during the puja of Lord Ganesha. It is said that doing so can anger Lord Ganesha. Moreover, when installing Lord Ganesha at home on Vinayaka Chaturthi, do not leave him alone. There should be someone at home. Also, be careful not to see the back of the idol of Lord Ganesha during installation, as it brings poverty.
During the puja of Lord Ganesha, when you light a lamp, do not change its position repeatedly, and do not place the lamp on Lord Ganesha's seat. Also, on the day of Vinayaka Chaturthi, avoid consuming salt during fasting. Do not wear black clothes on Vinayaka Chaturthi because black colour is considered negative.
Furthermore, if you are observing a fast on this day, avoid using offensive language towards anyone. Doing so diminishes the merit of the fast.
