On the banks of the Bhagirathi River in Uttarkashi stands the ancient temple of Lord Vishwanath. This is why the place is called the Kashi of the North. In the Skanda Purana's Kedarkhand, Lord Shiva refers to Uttarkashi as the Kashi of the Kali Yuga. He also expressed that He would reside in Uttarkashi, along with His family, all pilgrimage sites, and Kashi, in the Kali Yuga. According to legends, this temple was established by Lord Parashurama. In fact, the pilgrimage to Gangotri and Yamunotri is considered incomplete without a visit to the Vishwanath Temple. For this reason, thousands of devotees perform pujas at this temple every year. It is believed that worshiping Lord Shiva here, especially on Mondays, is considered auspicious. Therefore, on the first Monday of 2025, Shiv Panchamrit Rudrabhishek and Shri Rudram Namakam Chamakam Yagya (Yagya with mantra jaap from the oldest scripture) will be organized at this temple. It is believed that anyone who performs this puja in Vishwanath Kashi will be blessed with mental and physical well-being. Shri Rudram Namakam Chamakam Yagya is performed with the chanting of mantras. Namakam and Chamakam are parts of the Sri Rudram, one of the oldest scriptures in India, which is found in the Yajurveda, one of the four Vedas.
In the first part of Shri Rudram, 'Namakam', innumerable forms and qualities of God are praised. By reciting the second part, 'Chamakam', the seeker receives a life filled with happiness and prosperity in both worldly and spiritual realms. On the other hand, The Puranas describe various rituals to please Lord Shiva, among which the highly fruitful Panchamrit Rudrabhishek is mentioned. Panchamrit Rudrabhishek involves bathing the Rudra form of the Shivling with sacred water, milk, honey, and five ingredients, accompanied by the chanting of mantras. It is believed that Shiva, established in the form of Rudra, quickly ends human suffering. This is why devotees perform Panchamrit Rudrabhishek to please Lord Shiva. It is believed that performing these rituals together with complete devotion, a person receives blessings of mental and physical well-being.
