Mahalaya Amavasya is the final and most significant day of Pitru Paksha. It’s a day to provide offerings and love to all your pitrus and help them move towards liberation, even those you may not know by name or have forgotten by mistake. Performing rituals on these days in the holy city of Kashi - Shiv Ji’s home - is believed to grant complete liberation to their souls.

🪔 Significance of Pitru Amavasya in Sanatan Dharma

In Sanatan Dharma, Pitru Amavasya holds special spiritual importance. It is the sacred day when we perform rituals like Shraddha, Tarpan, and Pind Daan to bring peace to our ancestors’ souls and help them attain moksha (liberation). According to the scriptures, during Pitru Paksha, it is believed that our ancestors descend from Pitru Lok to Earth to receive offerings, prayers, and respect from their descendants.

🍃 Each day of this period has its own spiritual significance, but the last day is considered the final opportunity to perform these sacred rituals. The Vedas, Upanishads, and Puranas explain in detail the importance of performing Tarpan on Shraddha Amavasya. As per the Garuda Purana, if these rituals are not performed, ancestral debts may remain unsettled, which can lead to challenges like job delays, career obstacles, financial struggles, health problems, and hurdles in children’s education.
