Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is a sacred site located on the banks of the Narmada River, where Maa Narmada is believed to flow in the shape of the sacred syllable āOmā, and Lord Shiva is revered in the form of sound and energy. This site is not just one of the twelve Jyotirlingas but is also considered a powerful center of mantra energy and spiritual healing. According to legend, King Mandhata of the Ikshvaku dynasty performed intense penance here and was granted a divine boon that freed his lineage from disease and untimely death. It is also believed that Lord Shiva rests at Omkareshwar each night after traveling through all three realms.
