According to the ancient legend found in religious texts, Lord Dhanvantari emerged during the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan). After emerging, He asked Lord Vishnu for a divine position. However, Lord Vishnu said that He had arrived slightly late, and the deities had already been worshipped, and all positions had been distributed. Therefore, Lord Dhanvantari could not be given a divine status immediately, but He was promised that in the second Dwapara Yuga, He would be born in a royal family on Earth and would become renowned and revered in all three worlds. He would be regarded as divine, and He would divide Ayurveda into its eight branches. Due to this boon, in the second Dwapara Yuga, Lord Dhanvantari was born in the royal family of King Kash, the ruler of Kashi, as the son of Dhanva. Afterward, He received the knowledge of Ayurveda from Bharadwaja and divided it into eight branches. Lord Dhanvantari possessed knowledge of all the methods of healing, which is why He is considered the deity who grants health. It is believed that worshipping Lord Dhanvantari relieves health-related problems. Therefore, on the auspicious day of Monday, in the Etteluthuperumal Temple located in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, 11,000 Mahamrityunjay Mantra Jaap and Dhanvantari Homa will be organised.
