In Sanatan Dharma, Lord Ganesha is considered the remover of obstacles (Vighnaharta). Additionally, it is a tradition to worship Lord Ganesha first before commencing any auspicious task. It is believed that if any work begins with the worship of Lord Ganesha, it is bound to be successful. For this reason, people dedicate rituals to Lord Ganesha at the very start of the year. This time, in 2025, Shukla Chaturthi falls on the third day of the year. According to scriptures, Lord Ganesha was born on Shukla Chaturthi, which is why this day is called Vinayaka Chaturthi. It is believed that worshiping Lord Ganesha on this auspicious day removes all obstacles. To mark the first Vinayaka Chaturthi of the year, Sri Mandir is organizing a special Ekadanta Ganapati Pujan and Sankatahara Ganapati Havan at the Ganesh Dodital Temple in Uttarakhand, considered to be the birthplace of Lord Ganesha.
The Ganesh Dodital Temple is believed to be the place where Lord Ganesha was born. According to legend, at Dodital, Maa Parvati created the figure of Lord Ganesha using sandalwood paste and breathed life into it. She instructed Ganesha to guard the entrance while she bathed. When Lord Shiva arrived and was stopped by Ganesha, he, in a fit of anger, severed Ganesha's head. Later, at Maa Parvati's request, Lord Shiva restored Ganesha to life by placing an elephant's head on him. This is why worshiping Lord Ganesha at this temple is believed to yield manifold blessings. The Ekadanta Ganapati Pujan and Sankatahara Ganapati Havan are special rituals dedicated to Lord Ganesha. It is believed that performing these rituals on the first Vinayaka Chaturthi of the year removes past obstacles and ensures a smooth start to the new year.
