According to the Hindu calendar, the New Year begins on the Pratipada Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Chaitra. As per the Brahma Purana, creation began on this very day, making it highly significant. The Hindu New Year marks fresh beginnings, renewed aspirations, and the start of a new financial year. To seek divine blessings, devotees offer prayers to Lord Ganesha, as beginning the year with his worship is considered highly auspicious. Revered as Vighna Harta (Remover of Obstacles) and Ashta Vinayak, Lord Ganesha is the deity of success and new beginnings. Worshiping him in his Vighna Harta form is believed to eliminate obstacles and bring prosperity and happiness.
According to the Puranas, Lord Ganesha manifests in eight divine forms—Vakratunda, Ekadanta, Mahodar, Gajanan, Lambodar, Vikata, Vighnaraja, and Dhumravarna. Among these, the seventh form, Vighnaraja, is worshiped for liberation from troubles and protection from negative energies. Devotees believe that performing the Ganesh Vighnaharta Puja and Havan pleases Lord Ganesha in this form, removing life’s hurdles and ensuring a fresh, auspicious start. This huge idol in the temple is not made of cement but of bricks, lime, and sand, and what's even more intriguing is that the mixture used in the making also contained spices of jaggery and fenugreek seeds.
