Mahalaya Amavasya Gaya Special Til Tarpan and Pind Daan for peace of ancestors' souls and resolving family disputes

In Sanatan Dharma, Pitru Paksha holds special significance. This period is considered the most auspicious time for the peace of ancestors' souls. Mahalaya Amavasya, also known as Sarvapitri Amavasya or Pitru Moksha Amavasya, is a significant day in the Hindu calendar dedicated to honouring ancestors. This day marks the end of the Pitru Paksha period and is considered an auspicious time to honour all ancestors. Those who, for any reason, are unable to perform Shradh during the 15 days of Pitru Paksha or are unaware of the Tithi of death of their ancestors can perform Shradh, Tarpan, and Daan on this Amavasya for all their ancestors. The period of Mahalaya Amavasya is also considered auspicious for the removal of Pitru Dosh. During Mahalaya Amavasya, followers of Hinduism perform special rituals like Tarpan, and Pind Daan for the peace and contentment of the souls of their ancestors. According to Garuda Purana, to get freedom from Pitru Rina (debts towards ancestors), performing Shradh, Tarpan, and Pind Daan is essential. A person who does not perform the proper Shradh for their ancestors may face various hardships in life. It is believed that a family suffering from Pitru Dosh may encounter issues like lack of promotion in jobs, difficulties in children's education and career, and health problems for the main members of the family. Therefore, Pind Daan and Til Tarpan are performed to get relief from these troubles.

Shradh performed during Pitru Paksha consists of two parts. Pind Daan involves offering food to ancestors, while Til refers to sesame seeds, and Tarpan means offering water. Therefore, performing Til Tarpan involves offering water to the ancestors along with sesame seeds. According to the Vayu Purana, it is believed that anything offered to the ancestors with sesame seeds and devotion is received by them in the form of Amrit. If this Shradh ritual is performed at a sacred place, its significance becomes even more powerful. In Hindu traditions, the Dharmaranya Vedi is counted among the Panch Tirth Vedika (five sacred altars), which is why performing Shradh for ancestors here holds greater importance. Hence, a Til Tarpan and Pind Daan will be organised on Mahalaya Amavasya during Pitru Paksha at the Dharmaranya Vedi in Gaya. Additionally, during the Pitru Paksha, there is a tradition of performing acts of charity for ancestors. It is believed that offerings made during this time yield double the rewards. These offerings include Panch Bhog, lamp offerings (Deep Daan), and Ganga Aarti. By incorporating these additional options—such as Panch Bhog, Deep Daan, and Ganga Aarti—you can enhance the effectiveness of your puja and gain greater benefits. Therefore, participate in the Til Tarpan and Pind Daan on Mahalaya Amavasya during Pitru Paksha through Sri Mandir and receive the blessings of your ancestors.

Attainment of a Healthy Life
Pitru Dosh can also lead to physical or mental illnesses in the family. Individuals affected by Pitru Dosh often face repeated health issues and difficulties in finding treatment for diseases. Participating in Pind Daan and Til Tarpan on Mahalaya Amavasya during Pitru Paksha helps alleviate health problems and brings blessings for a healthy and prosperous life.

Pitru Paksha Special Panch Bhog Mahadaan
During the Pitru Paksha period, the act of giving (Daan) is considered highly significant. Religious texts state that offering food to Brahmans (Brahman Bhoj) along with feeding cows, dogs, birds, and ants is considered a meritorious act, known as Panch Bali or Panch Bhog. It is believed that when these beings are fed during Pitru Paksha, the ancestors are satisfied with the food consumed by them and bestow blessings upon their descendants.

Dharmaranya Vedi, Gaya, Bihar

Dharmaranya Vedi, Gaya, Bihar
Pind Daan has special significance in the city of Gaya located in Bihar, which is also known as Bodh Gaya. Performing Pind Daan and Tarpan at this place is believed to grant salvation to the ancestors, which is why this sacred place is also called Moksha Sthali (place of liberation). It is believed that apart from Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh, all the gods and goddesses reside here. The importance of Gaya is highlighted by the fact that on the banks of the Phalgu River, King Dasharatha's soul was pacified, and Shradh rites and Pind Daan were performed for his salvation. The city of Gaya is also mentioned in the Vayu Purana, Garuda Purana, and Vishnu Purana.

The process of Tarpan and Pind Daan, which has been practised for ages, continues today at the Pind Vedies located around the sacred land of Gaya. According to the Skanda Purana, during the Mahabharata war, Yudhishthira performed Pind Daan at the Dharmaranya Pind Vedi for the peace and repentance of the souls of those who were killed. In Hindu rituals, the Dharmaranya Vedi is counted among the Panchtirth Vedies. It is believed that performing Pind Daan and Tripindi Shradh at the Dharmaranya Pind Vedi holds special significance. These rituals performed here are said to liberate one from ghostly influence and grant salvation to all ancestors.
