Kanak Bhawan, also known as Sone-ka-Ghar, is a sacred temple in Ayodhya with deep historical and cultural significance. This temple, dedicated to Lord Rama and Goddess Sita, is a testament to their divine love and devotion.
History of the temple
The history of the Golden Palace of Ayodhya is very old. According to legend, the temple was built in Treta Yuga. According to the scriptures, when Lord Rama married, Queen Kaikeyi gave this palace to Mother Sita as a gift. After that, in Dwapara Yuga, Lord Krishna also came to this temple to worship Lord Rama and then he renovated this temple. Since then, this temple has been rebuilt and renovated several times. After that, in the present age, it was first built by Chandragupta Vikramaditya in 2431 BC during the Yudhishthira era and then it was renovated by Samudragupta in 387 AD and the present Golden Palace of Ayodhya was built in 1891 by the queen of Orchha.

Some notable festivals celebrated at the temple are: Ram Navmi: The auspicious birthday of Lord Rama. Janki Navmi: The birthday of Devi Sita, which falls exactly one month after Ram Navmi. Phool Bangla: A colourful festival in which the entire temple and idols are covered in beautiful flowers. Jhula: A 15-day festival in which the deities are displayed ceremoniously on a swing or jhula.
Architecture of the temple
Kanak Bhawan is built in the ‘Bundela’ architectural style, The Bundela tradition is reflected in Kanak Bhawan's architecture, evoking the rich cultural heritage of the city of Ayodhya. Arched doorways can be found in the central hall, and three pairs of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita idols with gold crowns are housed in the ‘Garbhagriha’. The intricate gold ornaments on the idols add to the temple's beauty.
