.Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, India
Madan Mohan Temple is located in the sacred city of Vrindavan in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the ancient temples of the Vaishnavite tradition and holds a place among the Sapt Devalaya (Seven Temples). During the reign of Aurangzeb, the idol of Madan Mohan was shifted to Karauli in Rajasthan to protect it. This temple is also known as "Shri Radha Madan Mohan Temple."
History of the temple
The history of Madan Mohan Temple dates back five thousand years. It is believed that Krishna's great-grandson, Vajranabh, built this temple. However, according to historical records, a Multani merchant named Kapoor Ram Das constructed the temple under the guidance of Shri Sanatan Goswami in the 15th or 16th century.
Significance of the temple
One fascinating fact is that despite Aurangzeb's attempts to destroy the temple, it remained strong and intact. Unlike other temples in Vrindavan where daily worship takes place, the Madan Mohan Temple only conducts the Aarti during the month of Kartik.
Architecture of the temple
The Madan Mohan Temple is constructed in the North Indian architectural style using red sandstone. It features a statue of Lord Krishna along with Radha Rani and Lalita Sakhi. The temple stands 50 feet above the Yamuna River, with its foundation extending 70 feet below the river.
