History of the temple
The temple is over 500 years old, established by Gopal Bhatt Swami. Gopal Bhatt Swami arrived in Vrindavan when he was 30 years old. After the sudden departure of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, he dreamt that the Lord directed him to go to Nepal for darshan. He followed the divine instruction, bathed in the Kaligandaki River, and found several Shaligram stones in his water pot. He brought twelve Shaligram Shilas to Vrindavan, where they were installed and are still present in the temple. The present-day Radha Raman Temple was constructed in 1826, commissioned by Shah Bihari Lalji of Lucknow.
Significance of the temple
The original Shaligram deity of Lord Krishna is still present in the temple, alongside Radharani. The temple does not have an idol of Radha Ji as Radha-Raman's deity is considered self-manifested. Festivals are celebrated with great pomp and show at the temple, attracting visitors from afar.
Architecture of the temple
Shri Radha Raman Temple features a modern Hindu architectural style. Inside the temple, there is a self-manifested deity of Shri Radha Raman made from Saligrama stone. The temple's grand location by the river enhances its natural beauty. The temple also houses the samadhi of Gopal Bhatt Goswami, its founder. It is said that clothes used by Guru Chaitanya are also present in the temple.
