Shri Radha Vallabh Mandir

It is also known as Radha Vallabhalal Ji Mandir.

Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, India

Radha Vallabh Temple is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Vrindavan. It is a representation of the perfect love that Lord Krishna and Radha Rani have, which is frequently referred to be the rarest type of "Ras Bhakti." The Radha Vallabh sect's major shrine upholds the belief that Radha Rani is the greatest deity. The medieval temple building, today known as "Hit Mandir," was built in the 16th century by Sundardas Bhatnagar with the support of Goswami Hit Harivansh Mahaprabhu, the founder of the Radha Vallabh Sect, with royal approval. Radha Rani is the main deity of the temple, yet there isn't an idol of the Goddess wherever to be found. To emphasize that Lord Krishna and Radha Rani have two distinct bodies but are connected by a single spirit, the temple contains an idol that is thought to represent both of them. Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha are combined in the term "RadhaVallabh." Near Shri Radha Vallabh's idol, a crown serving as the embodiment of Goddess Radha is visible. According to widespread belief, only those with sincere devotion and a pure heart can receive the divine darshan of the idol.

History of the temple

The Old Radhavallabh Temple, currently known as Hit Mandir in Vrindavan, was built in 1585 A.D by Sundardas Bhatnagar, a disciple of Shri Vanachandra, the son of Hith Harivansh Mahaprabhu. Sundardas Bhatnagar, employed under Abdul Rahim Khankhana, a prominent figure at Akbar's court, secured royal permission to use Red sandstone for the temple's construction. This privilege was typically reserved for imperial buildings, palaces, and forts. Moreover, Bhatnagar received financial support from Akbar himself. The descendants of Sundardas Bhatnagar in Deoband still possess the temple's historical documents. Interestingly, King Maan Singh initially planned to build the temple but withdrew upon hearing a legend predicting the builder's demise within a year. The legend eventually proved true, as Sundardas Bhatnagar passed away shortly after completing the temple's construction. According to a well-known legend, no sculptor has ever created the god Radha Vallabh. Because of his intense devotion and prayers, Shiva himself granted the deity to a devotee by the name of Atmadev. In a place called Devavan, the Hith Harivansh Mahaprabhu lived for 31 years. He departed for Vrindavan in his 32nd year. Goddess Radha herself gave him the directive to wed the daughters of Atmadev and transport the Radha Vallabh Ji statue to Vrindavan with them. As instructed, Hith Harivansh Mahaprabhu wed Atmadev's daughters, and upon their nuptials, Atmadev gave the Radha Vallabh Ji idol to Harivansh Mahaprabhu and his daughters.

Significance of the temple

It is a belief that in the Radhavallabh temple, the Lord gives darshan to that devotee, who renounces all sinful deeds and enters the temple with a true heart, and the devotee who does not have the feeling of true love and devotion in his heart, can never get lord's darshan.

Architecture of the temple

The ancient Shri Radha Vallabh Ji Temple building is a protected landmark, and its design exudes a spirit of religious and spiritual tolerance. It is one of the few instances where Hindu and Mughal architectural styles have been combined. The distinctive architecture of this temple, which demonstrates the uncommon blending of forms, makes it stand out. One of the first temples to have been constructed using red sandstones, which were previously solely utilised in imperial structures. In contrast to the other sections, which are unique to Hindu architecture, the Trifolium (a gallery or arcade above the central part) which is associated with Mughal architecture, is present. It is perhaps the only temple in which a "Nave," which is extremely uncommon to see in today's world, was built.
