Significance of Shiv Mahimna Stotra and Bilvashtakam
🔹 Shiv Mahimna Stotra
Shiv Mahimna Stotra is a divine hymn praising the boundless glory of Lord Shiva. It was composed by King Pushpadanta, who unknowingly committed an offense against Lord Shiva and sought forgiveness through this stotra. Lord Shiva is so merciful that when a devotee sincerely surrenders at his feet and repents, he not only absolves them of their sins but also grants them a fresh start. Chanting this stotra helps one get rid of negative karma and purifies the mind.
🔹 Bilwa Ashtakam
On the other hand, Bilwa Ashtakam was composed by Jagadguru Shri Adi Shankaracharya. It is a powerful mantra, and it is believed that when Bilva leaves (Bel Patra) are offered to a Shivling while reciting Bilwa Ashtakam, it destroys one's sins. According to the Shiv Purana, a single Bilva leaf is equivalent to offering a thousand lotus flowers. The Skanda Purana states that anyone who sincerely offers Bilva leaves on a Shivling is freed from sins accumulated over many lifetimes. Lord Shiva is extremely fond of Bilva leaves, and if someone offers them with a pure heart, he grants them their desires.
