Since then, Vaikunth Chaturdashi has been celebrated with great devotion. On this day, Lord Shiva entrusts Lord Vishnu with the responsibilities of creation. On Vaikunth Chaturthi, Lord Shiva (Hara) is offered Tulsi leaves, which are dear to Lord Vishnu, and Lord Vishnu (Hari) is offered Bilva leaves, beloved of Lord Shiva, symbolising their divine union. Many rituals are performed to please both deities, including the Harihar Milan Puja, which symbolises the powers of preservation (Vishnu) and destruction (Shiva) in the cosmos. On this auspicious day, both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu bestow their blessings upon the devotees. According to a mythological story, Lord Shiva comes here to rest at night after wandering through all the three worlds.
