According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Chandra favored Rohini among his twenty-seven wives, due to which Daksha Prajapati got angry. Due to excessive affection towards Rohini, Daksha cursed Chandra with consumption disease. When the Moon went to take refuge in Lord Vishnu, He suggested Chandra Dev to worship Lord Shiva in Prayag.
