At the very beginning of 2025, the auspicious conjunction of Ardra Nakshatra falls on the full moon (Purnima) day. It is believed that during this time, the negative effects of Rahu can be pacified through special rituals, as Ardra Nakshatra is ruled by Rahu itself. According to astrology, Rahu is considered a powerful planet that deeply impacts an individual’s life. It is often associated with unfavorable outcomes, such as obstacles, lack of confidence, mental health issues, impaired decision-making abilities, and social stigma. However, when positioned favorably, Rahu can also bring success, luxury, and many positive results. To reduce the negative effects of Rahu, the Rahu Paithani Temple, located in the Pauri district of Uttarakhand, holds great significance. It is one of the few temples in India dedicated to Rahu worship.
According to legend, during the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean), the demon Swarbhanu disguised himself as a deity and consumed the amrit of immortality. Lord Vishnu then severed his head from his body. It is believed that the spot where Swarbhanu’s head (Rahu) fell is where this temple was established. Here, along with Lord Shiva, there is a headless idol of Rahu. Special rituals such as Shanti Puja and Mantra Jaap are performed at this temple, which are believed to help reduce the malefic effects of Rahu. This puja is especially beneficial for achieving mental peace, improving decision-making abilities, and removing obstacles in life. Performing this ritual during Ardra Nakshatra, which is ruled by Rahu, is considered even more auspicious.
