Shri Khatu Shyam Ji is worshipped as the Krishna of Kalyug because Shri Krishna himself blessed him to be revered in his own name and form. His story, deeply rooted in the Mahabharata, highlights devotion, sacrifice, and divine grace. Before the great war, Barbarika, the Greatest Warrior of All Time and the mighty grandson of Bhima, possessed three divine arrows (Teen Baan) from Lord Shiva, making him invincible. He vowed to support the weaker side, ensuring fairness. However, Krishna foresaw a problem—since the weaker side would keep shifting, Barbarika’s intervention would lead to the destruction of both armies, leaving him as the sole survivor. To prevent this catastrophe, Shri Krishna tested Barbarika’s strength and then asked for his greatest sacrifice—his head (Sheesh Daan). Recognizing Krishna’s divine will, Barbarika willingly offered it without hesitation. Pleased with his devotion, Krishna granted him a boon—in Kalyug, Barbarika would be worshipped as Shyam Ji, fulfilling devotees' prayers swiftly. Later, his sacred head was found in Khatu, Rajasthan, where he is now worshipped as Shri Khatu Shyam Ji, the protector of devotees.
