During this period, the ancestors have to suffer in the Pisacha Yoni (realm of evil spirits). Pisacha Yoni is a state where the soul, as a result of sins and bad deeds from previous births, remains trapped in a lower state and experiences suffering. The soul remains in this state until it is freed through virtuous deeds or spiritual rituals.
