The temple houses a golden idol of Maa Annapurna. The darshan of the golden idol of Maa Annapurna is open only once a year during the Annakoot Mahotsav. However, for the darshan of the second idol of Maa Annapurna, the temple is open daily for devotees.
Significance of the temple
According to the beliefs associated with the temple, there is a popular legend that once an epidemic struck Kashi, causing devastation from all sides. People started dying of hunger. Lord Shiva focused on resolving this problem and realised that Maa Annapurna could save Kashi from this disaster. So Lord Bholenath himself went to Maa Annapurna to seek alms. Mata, pleased, declared that from then on, no person in Kashi would die of hunger. Whoever comes to Kashi will not remain hungry due to Maa's grace. On the same day, during the Annakut festival, the devotees are blessed with the darshan of the treasure. On the day of Annakut, devotees are distributed treasures. Treasures, coins, bundles of grains, and rice are given here. It is believed that those who keep this treasure in their safe will never face financial scarcity.
