According to another legend, Yamaraj, the god of death who resides in the southern direction, flees upon hearing the name of the goddess, which is why she is known as Dakshina Kali. It means that Yamaraj, the god of death, whose kingdom i.e. Yamalok is situated in the south direction, also stays away from the devotees of Maa Kali and after death, Yamdoot does not take them to Yamalok. Therefore, it is believed that by performing special puja of this form of Maa Kali, one can receive blessings for abundance of wealth and year-round prosperity. If this puja is performed during a specific auspicious time (muhurat), its benefits are believed to be multiplied. On Diwali, the Nishit Kaal Muhurat falls between 11:57 PM to 12:47 AM, which is considered the most auspicious time for this puja. Therefore, during the auspicious time of the Nishit Kaal on Diwali, Shree Shree Dakshina Kali Mata Mahanisha Pujan, Stotra Path and Havan will be organised at Shaktipeeth Kalighat Temple located in West Bengal.
