The city of Vrindavan has a deep connection with Hindu mythology, known for the childhood and Lilas of Lord Shri Krishna. Shri Dham Vrindavan witnessed the Lilas of Lord Shri Krishna and Radha Ji and still contains many mysteries within itself. Shri Jugal Kishore Temple is situated at Keshi Ghat in Vrindavan, where Lord Shri Krishna and Radha Ji are seated in Jugal form. In the evening, lamps are lit in the Shree Jugal Kishore Temple, which adds to the beauty of the temple.
History of the temple
The history of Shri Jugal Kishore Temple is thousands of years old. One of the oldest temples in Vrindavan, the Shree Jugal Kishore Mandir, was constructed in the year 1627 by its builder Nankaran. The temple belongs to the Vaishnav sect and is the fourth temple in the series after Govind Dev, Madan Mohan, and Gopinath Temple. It is situated next to the famous Keshi Ghat.
Significance of the temple
On the banks of the river Yamuna, Shri Krishna killed the horse demon Keshi. The place where he killed the demon is now known as Keshi Ghat, and the Shri Jugal Kishore Temple was established here. The main attraction of Shri Jugal Kishore Ji Temple is Keshi Ghat, which is one of the sacred bathing places for devotees in Vrindavan. In the evening, hundreds of devotees come to Keshi Ghat and light Diya in Shri Jugal Kishore Temple, adding to the beauty of this Ghat and the temple.
Architecture of the temple
This temple, made of red stone, stands so tall that it can be seen even from across the Yamuna River. The architectural style of this temple is reminiscent of the Madan Mohan Temple, Shri Govind Dev Temple, and Shri Madan Mohan Temple. The craftsmanship in this red-stone temple is remarkable. At the main entrance of the temple, there is a beautiful sculpture of Lord Krishna holding the Govardhan mountain and surrounded by his beloved sakhis. The entrance is adorned with floral and bird motifs. The temple's spire and architectural details are aesthetically pleasing. Its Assembly hall is relatively larger compared to other temples, measuring 25 square feet, and is located on the eastern side. However, there are also smaller entrances on the northern and southern sides. The sanctum sanctorum had been destroyed.
